Can you imagine sipping your drink on this porch and watching the river roll by. Makes you almost not care about A/C. - DSC03341

The view of the Potomac from Mount Vernon. Wow! I could stare at that all day. - DSC03337
Mount Vernon. We found this huge stump in the front lawn. At the bookstore we realized it was famous and must have died recently. - DSC03336
Chicken a-la-Jennifer. - DSC03335
Jen was very enthusiastic to bake a chicken. So after 3 days, we finally got it done. It's not easy to buy groceries and haul ass up the hill. She scared me. I thought she wasn't going to let me cook it with the skin on. I'm still a little shaken. But the meal was worth waiting for. - DSC03334
Dewing from the 1880s at the Renwick. It was a museum of american fine craft, but the permanent collection was totally unremarkable. They were in between special exhibits. Very disappointing, but I found two great books in their gift shop: one on the history of pigments and one a guide to arts and crafts architecture on a state-by-state basis. - DSC03333
Jennifer and me with Garden in May. - DSC03332
Maria Oakey Dewing, Garden in May. Gorgeous. Too bad she did not prioritize her career. After seeing Thomas's paintings from the 1880s, I am convinced that she did the foliage in his works, uncredited. The style of the foliage is utterly different than the rest of the work. - DSC03331
Here we are at the Renwick Gallery. This is the Dewing painting I hung my argument on. It was informative to compare the original to the reproductions. It was much softer and less vibrant. And, you can make something out in the mirrors. Luckily, niether factor was crucial to my argument. - DSC03328
Me in front of one of many fantastic paintings on blue of peacocks. The graphic element was masterful. This is supposed to represent Whistler's relationship with the patron. The poor assailed artist. We went to the Freer to see the Thomas Wilmer Dewing paintings - the dude I did my thesis on. It was neat, but I had my camera on movie...nice. - DSC03327
Jen at the Freer Gallery. It did not come out well in the dark space, but she loved the gold sunflower and irons and the mosaic hearth composed of a million shades of blue. We read that another designer began this project, but that when he fell ill, Whistler just took it over, repainting and reworking it until it no longer resembled the original plans. What a dick. But it was cool.
